Sand-Sculpting

Template: based on one by CDuffy_05
Kit: Pumpkin Spice by Dana Conditt & Lorene Hill
Fonts: Calisto MT (shadowed), Casua Shopsign
Journaling: Sand-sculpting requires a special blend of sand that's heavy with silt. It helps bind the tiny particles of sand together when mixed with water. Each competitor is allotted 10 tons, delivered from a local sand pit. The competition is a timed event. Sculptors have only 21 hours, spread over three days, to complete their work. Competitors are allowed to use their own carving tools. To achieve heights of up to 20 feet, sculptors build steps using temporary forms. Artists can use the lower forms to stand on as they carve downward and remove the forms as they go. No structural components are permitted in the completed work. The sculptures must endure whatever nature has in store throughout the competition. Wind is often a bigger obstacle than rain. Finished works can be sprayed with a mixture of glue and water to form a thin protective veneer.

Angels

This month's Lyrics Challenge at K-Joi Studios has us creating a layout using all or part of the song,"Faces" by Ed Leonard from the album "So This is Love;" 2006. This one was kind of a struggle for me, so I chose not to use photographs but instead used pictures of angels.

Title: Angels
Template: Rue Beinville by Rachael Hudnall
Kits: Rue Beinville by Rachael Hudnall, Club Daisie by SGE (angel pictures)
Font: Ruritania
Journaling: Excerpt from "Faces" by Ed Leonard from the album "So This is Love;" 2006
I see the stories of the ones that I love.
They're staring back at me through pictures I have.
In their eyes they're asking me to remember them and their
Standing ovations of love.

Scripture Challenge - Isaiah 58:11

I truly enjoyed this month's Scripture Challenge at K-Joi Studios. The verse we worked with is awesome, and I always love including photos of my grandchildren in my layouts. I changed the quickpage color from green to blue and then embellished it with wintry items in icy blue colors. If you'd like to join in on this challenge, you'll find the link below in my data.

Thankful

Kit: Blooming Blossoms by Theta, Swirls by Ice Princess Scrapz
Fonts: Storybook, Tahoma
Journaling:

THANKFUL by Josh Groban

Somedays we forget
To look around us
Somedays we can't see
The joy that surrounds us
So caught up inside ourselves
We take when we should give.

So for tonight we pray for
What we know can be.
And on this day we hope for
What we still can't see.
It's up to us to be the change
And even though we all can still do more
There's so much to be thankful for.

Look beyond ourselves
There's so much sorrow
It's way too late to say
I'll cry tomorrow
Each of us must find our truth
It's so long overdue

So for tonight we pray for
What we know can be
And every day we hope for
What we still can't see
It's up to us to be the change
And even though we all can still do more
There's so much to be thankful for.

Even with our differences
There is a place we're all connected
Each of us can find each other's light

So for tonight we pray for
What we know can be
And on this day we hope for
What we still can't see
It's up to us to be the change
And even though this world needs so much more
There's so much to be thankful for.

A Thankful Nana

Kit: Simply Stated by Linda Cumberland
Fonts: Marketpro, Word Art by Elegant
Journaling: There's no place like home except for Nana's house.
Being a grandmother is the most fantastic part of my life. I am very thankful for the precious little smiles my grandchildren cast my way, the endless questions they ask, their God-given guidance and protection, and even more thankful that I can send them home with their parents after I am done spoiling them for a day.

Journaling:
You can make it with a double crust or replace the pears with baking apples. Serve it with ice cream or whipped topping.
Ingredients:

Pastry for single-crust pie (9 inches)

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1/2 cup maple syrup

2 tablespoons butter, melted

5 cups sliced peeled fresh pears

1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries

Topping:

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup packed brown sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/3 cup cold butter

1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Directions:

Line a 9-in. pie plate with pastry; trim and flute edges. Set aside. In a large bowl, combine the flour, syrup and butter until smooth. Add the pears and cranberries; toss to coat. Spoon into crust.

For topping, combine the flour, brown sugar and cinnamon; cut in butter until crumbly. Stir in walnuts. Sprinkle over filling. Cover edges of crust loosely with foil to prevent overbrowning. Bake at 400° for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350°. Remove foil; bake 35-40 minutes longer or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly. Cool on a wire rack.

Pine Cone Ginger

Kit: It's All About Love by Digital Arts Cafe
Fonts: Glorianna, Grizzly BT
Journaling: Pine Cone Ginger also known as Shampoo Ginger is easy to grow, clumping and propagated by division. Pine cone ginger is fast growing. It prefers moist soil. When it is done flowering, the bulb gets full of a clear liquid that has a light perfumed scent. The substance in the flower cones is used in many shampoos. In medieval times ginger root was so loved it was set on the table nightly as we do with salt and pepper today. .

Shampoo ginger was used as medicine for sprains, indigestion and other ailments. In traditional use, the root was ground with a stone mortar and pestle, and the pulp was placed in a cloth and loosely bound around the injured area. To ease a stomachache, the ground and strained root material was mixed with water and drunk. For a toothache or a cavity, the cooked and softened `awapuhi root was pressed into the hollow and left for as long as was needed.
